Main Ingredients

  • 500 g prawns / shrimp, raw, peeled and deveined Note 1
  • 1.5 tbsp vegetable oil or canola
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil Note 2
  • 3 cloves garlic, very finely minced
  • 2 tsp ginger, grated or finely chopped can be omitted
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes Note 3
  • 125 ml water
  • 3 tbsp Sriracha Note 4
  • 2 tsp soy sauce, light or all-purpose Note 5
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar sub with white if preferred
  • Sesame seeds
  • Green onions, finely sliced
  • Red chillies, finely sliced or chopped

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the toasted sesame oil.
  • Once the oil is shimmering, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  • Add the prawns to the pan and toss gently in the oil and aromatics. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until they turn pink.
  • Sprinkle in the chilli flakes and pour in the water, Sriracha, and soy sauce.
  • Stir in the brown sugar and allow it to dissolve into the sauce. Let everything simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds, sliced green onions, and red chillies.
  • Serve hot, preferably with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Adjust the spice to your preference and ensure freshness of the ingredients for the best results. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat gently.
