Ingredients
  

  • Dry Ingredients:
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • teaspoon cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Wet Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ¾ cup brown sugar or honey/maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional Add-ins:
  • ½ cup chopped nuts walnuts or pecans
  • ½ cup raisins dried cranberries, or chopped apples

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients:
  • In another bowl, whisk applesauce, brown sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla until smooth and well blended.
  • Combine & Fold:
  • Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined. Don’t overmix. Stir in nuts or dried fruit if using.
  • Bake:
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool:
  • Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use unsweetened applesauce for better flavor control.
  • Avoid overmixing to keep the bread light and soft.
  • Adjust spices to your taste — extra cinnamon or nutmeg adds warmth.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
