Ingredients

  • For the Filling:
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey for a leaner option
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • ¾ cup Sloppy Joe sauce homemade or store-bought
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Dough and Assembly:
  • 1 pre-made pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or Italian seasoning for topping

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
  • Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; cook until softened.
  • Drain excess fat, then stir in Sloppy Joe sauce. Simmer 2–3 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Roll Out the Dough:
  • On a floured surface, roll pizza dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle.
  • Add Filling and Cheese:
  • Spoon Sloppy Joe mixture down the center, leaving edges free.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the filling.
  • Roll and Seal:
  • Roll dough from the long side, like a jelly roll. Pinch ends and edges to seal.
  • Bake:
  • Place seam-side down on parchment-lined sheet. Brush with egg wash; sprinkle with optional sesame seeds or herbs.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Cool and Slice:
  • Let rest for 5 minutes. Slice thick and serve warm.

Notes

  • Seal edges well to prevent leaks.
  • Avoid overfilling; too much sauce or cheese may burst.
  • Let cool before slicing to maintain layers.
  • Use parchment paper for easy cleanup.
