- For the Filling:
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey for a leaner option
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- ¾ cup Sloppy Joe sauce homemade or store-bought
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Dough and Assembly:
- 1 pre-made pizza dough or homemade dough
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: sesame seeds or Italian seasoning for topping
Prepare the Filling:
Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; cook until softened.
Drain excess fat, then stir in Sloppy Joe sauce. Simmer 2–3 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
Roll Out the Dough:
On a floured surface, roll pizza dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle.
Add Filling and Cheese:
Spoon Sloppy Joe mixture down the center, leaving edges free.
Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the filling.
Roll and Seal:
Roll dough from the long side, like a jelly roll. Pinch ends and edges to seal.
Bake:
Place seam-side down on parchment-lined sheet. Brush with egg wash; sprinkle with optional sesame seeds or herbs.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden and crispy.
Cool and Slice:
Let rest for 5 minutes. Slice thick and serve warm.
-
Seal edges well to prevent leaks.
-
Avoid overfilling; too much sauce or cheese may burst.
-
Let cool before slicing to maintain layers.
-
Use parchment paper for easy cleanup.
