  • 1 can 15 oz chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  • ¼ cup almond butter or peanut butter
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Flavor Base & Sweeteners
  • cup maple syrup or honey adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ –⅓ cup milk dairy or non-dairy, as needed
  • Pantry Staples
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 –2 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil optional, for extra smoothness

Instructions
 

  • Prep
  • Drain and rinse chickpeas thoroughly.
  • For ultra-smooth texture, gently rub chickpeas to remove skins (optional).
  • Blend
  • Add chickpeas, nut butter, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, milk, and salt to a food processor or high-speed blender.
  • Blend for 1–2 minutes, scraping down sides as needed.
  • Adjust Texture & Flavor
  • Continue blending until completely smooth and creamy.
  • Add more milk (1 tablespoon at a time) or oil if too thick.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness or cocoa level.
  • Chill & Serve
  • Transfer to a bowl and chill for 10–15 minutes if desired to let flavors meld.

Notes

  • Blend longer than you think—time is key for a silky texture.
  • A small pinch of salt enhances chocolate flavor.
  • If bitterness appears, add a touch more sweetener or vanilla.
