Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper soda
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs

For the Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the Dr. Pepper, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat this mixture until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared sheet pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Frosting

  • While your cake cools, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and milk, stirring until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and gradually add in the powdered sugar until you achieve a creamy texture.
  • Once the cake is completely cool, pour the frosting over the top and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Notes

Make sure your eggs and butter are at room temperature for better mixing. Let your cake fully cool before frosting to prevent melting.
