Ingredients

  • Base Layer
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers or graham crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Chocolate Layer
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ tsp sea salt optional, for topping
  • Optional Toppings
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Chopped pecans or almonds
  • Colorful holiday sprinkles
  • White chocolate drizzle
  • Dried cranberries or crushed cookies

Instructions

  • Prepare the Base:
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire surface.
  • Make the Toffee:
  • In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until it comes to a rolling boil (about 3–4 minutes) and thickens into smooth caramel.
  • Bake:
  • Pour the toffee evenly over the crackers. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  • Add Chocolate:
  • Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let sit for 1–2 minutes, then spread evenly with a spatula.
  • Top & Chill:
  • Add your favorite toppings while the chocolate is still soft. Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour or until firm.
  • Crack & Serve:
  • Break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the toffee — remove from heat as soon as it turns golden.
  • Use real butter for the best flavor and texture.
  • Cool completely before breaking to get that perfect “crack.”
  •  Experiment with different bases like pretzels or graham crackers.
  • Sprinkle sea salt before chilling for a gourmet sweet-salty finish.
