Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and sugar, whisking until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Mix in the orange zest and freshly squeezed orange juice, stirring in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

Chill

  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Churn

  • Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, pour it into a shallow dish and place it in the freezer, stirring every 30 minutes until it reaches a creamy consistency.

Freeze

  • Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for a minimum of 4 hours or until solid.

Serve

  • Let the ice cream sit out for a few minutes to soften slightly, then scoop into bowls and enjoy.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh, quality oranges. Experiment with the amount of orange zest and consider adding mix-ins like chocolate or nuts. Store in an airtight container in the back of the freezer to keep fresh. If too hard, let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before scooping.
