Ingredients

For the Fritto Misto

  • 1 pound large, fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined Tail-on or off as preferred
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For crispy coating
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch Enhances crispiness
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs For added texture
  • Salt and Pepper To taste
  • Lemon Wedges for serving Adds a refreshing zest
  • Dipping Sauce Tartar sauce, aioli, or marinara

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to achieve a super crispy coating.
  • Set up breading stations: combine flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper in one bowl; have beaten eggs in a second bowl; place seasoned breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  • Coat each shrimp first in the flour mixture, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently for an even coat.
  • Heat enough oil in a large pot or deep skillet to submerge the seafood by about two inches to an ideal temperature of 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Arrange the Shrimp Fritto Misto on a platter, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top, and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Freshness is key for the best flavor. Experiment with different breadcrumbs for crunchier texture. If frying in batches, keep cooked seafood warm in a low oven.
