Ingredients
  

Beef Preparation

  • 3 lbs Beef Chuck Roast Look for good marbling.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil For searing the beef.
  • 1 tsp Salt For seasoning the beef.
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper For seasoning the beef.
  • 3 cups Low-Sodium Beef Broth The base for the au jus.
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce Adds deep umami flavor.
  • 1 large Yellow Onion Thinly sliced.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced.

Sandwich Assembly

  • 6 pieces Crusty Hoagie Rolls Split for toasting.
  • 12 slices Provolone Cheese For melting and blistering over the beef.

  • 1 bag Frozen French Fries 16 oz (450g). Baked until crispy and golden-brown.

Instructions
 

Sear the Beef

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season your beef chuck roast with salt and pepper. Sear on all sides until browned.

Prepare the Slow Cooker

  • Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of your slow cooker. Then, add the seared roast on top.

Create the Au Jus

  • In a bowl, mix beef broth and soy sauce. Pour this mixture over the roast in the slow cooker.

Cook Low and Slow

  • Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours until the meat is fork-tender and easy to shred.

Assemble Your Sandwiches

  • Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Strain the liquid to use as au jus. Toast the hoagie rolls lightly, fill them with shredded beef and top with slices of provolone cheese.

Melt the Cheese

  • Place assembled sandwiches into the oven or a broiler until the cheese bubbles and is golden.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve your sandwiches warm with a side of crispy French fries and a small bowl of au jus for dipping.

Notes
