  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk
  • For the Sausage Filling:
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage turkey
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon black pepper ¼ teaspoon sage
  • Optional Add-Ons:
  • Cheddar cheese slices
  • Maple syrup or honey
  • Fried eggs

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sausage:
  • Shape sausage into patties, roughly the size of your biscuit cutter.
  • Cook in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
  • Drain on paper towels to remove excess grease.
  • Make the Biscuit Dough:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly stir in buttermilk until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  • Shape and Bake:
  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently roll out to ½-inch thickness.
  • Cut biscuits with a round cutter and place on a baking sheet, close together.
  • Bake in preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes until golden.
  • Brush tops with melted butter immediately after baking.
  • Assemble and Serve:
  • Split biscuits and add sausage patties.
  • Optional: add cheese, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a fried egg for a hearty breakfast sandwich.

Notes

  • Keep butter and buttermilk cold for flaky layers.
  • Press biscuit cutter straight down; don’t twist.
  • Avoid overworking the dough to keep biscuits tender.
  • Preheat oven for a quick rise and golden crust.
  • Use fresh baking powder for best results.
