Ingredients
  

  • Brownie Base
  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • OR one box brownie mix prepared as package instructs.
  • Strawberry Layer
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1 –2 tbsp sugar optional, for macerating
  • Cream Layer
  • 1 –1½ cups whipped cream OR vanilla frosting
  • Optional: ½ tsp vanilla or almond extract
  • Shortcake Crumble
  • 1 cup crushed shortbread cookies biscuits, or shortcake
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional

Instructions
 

  • Step 1 – Prepare the Brownie Base
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Add cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour into pan and bake 25–30 minutes or until edges are set and center is slightly fudgy.
  • Allow brownies to cool completely.
  • Step 2 – Prep the Strawberries
  • Wash, hull, and slice strawberries.
  • Optional: Sprinkle lightly with sugar to release juices.
  • Step 3 – Make Shortcake Crumble
  • Mix crushed shortcake/biscuits with melted butter.
  • Stir until sandy and crumbly.
  • Step 4 – Assemble
  • Spread whipped cream or frosting over the cooled brownies.
  • Layer sliced strawberries evenly on top.
  • Sprinkle shortcake crumble generously over strawberries.
  • Chill the pan for 30–60 minutes for clean slicing.

Notes

  • Let brownies cool completely to avoid melting the cream layer.
  • Pat strawberries dry to prevent sogginess.
  • Slice with a warm knife for clean squares.
