Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
4–5 medium russet or Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
1/2 cup milk
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
Cooking spray or butter (for greasing the dish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Drain excess grease.
- In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish.
- Spoon half of the beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Pour and spread half of the soup mixture over the beef layer.
- Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef, and soup.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 50–60 minutes, until potatoes are fork-tender.
- Remove foil, sprinkle with cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes until melted and bubbly.
- Let rest a few minutes before serving.
